My promise and my vow, 15 years ago and counting

Fifteen Years and counting, Laura and I said our vows overlooking Dana Point Harbor among our family and friends in 2002. Being a wedding photographer, I now have a deeper appreciation for all the details and planning that make a wedding go. Laura made the invitations, she picked the songs, had a vision for each detail. I on the other hand was like far too many men and I was of the attitude “sure, whatever you want.” Looking back I probably wouldn’t of changed a thing but I would of marinated myself in the details and enjoyed it at a different level. One thing we agreed completely on was we wanted to own our negatives.

If your new to planning your wedding (most people are), then you may have an idea of what you want to do with your pictures. You may want to make an album, have some prints, possibly have a canvas or two around the house. Our photographer had one thing that put her above all else, she gave the negatives with the cost of shooting our wedding. Yes we got to own the print rights after the fact. This is still important to us in our photography business and we include the hi res digital images and print release with all of our sessions and events. These are pictures of you and we want you to own those just like we wanted to own ours. We do include online print galleries so you can make print purchases, order canvas or other products all from the convenience of your personal gallery. So if you want to own your files then choose a photographer that 1. you like them and their style (you will be next to them most of your big day) 2. Includes the hi-res digital files with print release.

Photographers who do not provide the digital files usually will bring you in for a viewing after your session or wedding and have you choose the images you like and you will be sold them for an additional fee. I don’t knock this approach and some clients like this as well but for myself I like the all inclusive. It also does not hurt to ask for a package customized to your needs. Many of my clients will request help with a canvas, album or prints as part of there custom package. We are happy to help deliver exactly what your looking for.
